Restless Structures. Solo Exhibition 2010

Artist Statement

Restless Structures is an exploration of our surroundings, of architectural forms and spaces and the need we have to constantly change our environment.  Sometimes these changes are rapid and conspicuous, other times they happen slowly and unnoticed. What ever the rate, change seems to be constant. My work is a response to the energy and ordered chaos that unfolds during the construction or demolition of a structure. These stages I feel provide an infinite amount of possibilities for exploration.  Using a variety of pencils and graphite a drawing can develop gradually by adding and taking away marks.  Occasionally I work to a plan. My main aim is to show the intensity and give an expressive sense of our manmade surroundings.
